This session focuses on how pilots, aircrew, maintainers, and safety officers can use crew resource management (CRM) principles of communication and leadership to improve culture at their unit. The instructor will talk about his experience as a safety officer and pilot, and explore a 2011 ground mishap in which a small procedural change almost led to a catastrophic failure of the main rotor.

Instructor Bio

Augustino Albanese is a United States Coast Guard (USCG) instructor pilot/flight examiner in the MH-65E Dolphin helicopter. He has over a decade of flight experience and has taught CRM for the past six years, having flown search-and-rescue and hurricane-response operations; helped protect the airspace around Washington, D.C. (Rotary Wing Air Intercept mission); and taught cutter personnel and pilots how to conduct shipboard operations. In addition, Augustino has experience as a flight safety officer, an Interagency Committee for Aviation Policy federal aviation safety officer, an FAA flight instructor, and an airline transport pilot.
