This certification course provides pilots, aircrews, and passengers with basic preflight, in-flight, and post–aircraft-ditching knowledge and survival skills, including use of emergency breathing devices (EBDs). The course begins with a classroom session on aircraft ditching, followed by a session at an indoor pool where participants will practice their new survival skills. The course confirmation will list any supplies or materials participants must bring to class.

Learning Objectives: By the conclusion of the course, participants will have learned:

  • Prioritize tasks prior to ditching
  • Identify and perform critical steps in the use of underwater egress and EBDs
  • Identify water-survival skills.

Instructor Bio

Prior to his appointment as the lead for internal staff development at Survival Systems USA in 2020, Andrew Kelly served in multiple operational roles at the company. He has given presentations at venues in more than 30 US states for aviation clients and has conducted instructor and student training around the world. Andrew has also consulted as a subject matter expert for research and development programs with Project PoSSUM (Polar Suborbital Science in the Upper Mesosphere) and the GWO (Global Wind Organization) involving underwater egress and surface water survival training and equipment, as well as workforce development.
