This three-day, comprehensive airborne law enforcement (ALE) aircrew workshop and FLIR certification course provides ALE thermographer and aircrew tactics training as well as training in the legal aspects of surveillance. Additionally, attendees will learn the technical aspects of an infrared sensor (IR), including how to testify to its operation in a courtroom setting. The course includes a written knowledge test, and completion of the course will certify attendees as experts in the operation of Teledyne FLIR sensors.
Learning Objectives: By the conclusion of the course, participants will have learned:
- Technical aspects of the IR sensor
- Equipment setup and FLIR calibration
- Nighttime ALE tactics
- Search-and-rescue and patrol-support considerations

As owner of Tactical Flying, Nick Minx manages day-to-day operations while playing an active role in training and development. A sworn officer for over 17 years with the San Diego Police Department (SDPD), Nick was assigned to SDPD’s Air Support Unit as a tactical flight officer in 2012 and has since become certified as a helicopter pilot. He has over 3,000 combined hours working both seats in an aircraft and is certified as a pilot in the Airbus AS350 B3, Airbus H125, and Schweizer 300 trainer.
