Rotor Safety Challenge Course (RSC)
Maintenance, Pilot, Safety
Instructor: Benjamin Goodheart, Magpie Human Safety Systems
Price: This course is free to anyone attending HAI HELI-EXPO

Complacency is everywhere. Why? Because it’s a perfectly normal human condition—one we rely on, in fact, every day to survive. At an inopportune moment, though, complacency can contribute to disastrous outcomes. In this session, we’ll examine some of the common misconceptions about complacency with a focus on safety and risk. As we do, we’ll also explore the brain science behind what complacency is and what it does—a lot of it good. Most important, we’ll discuss practical tools to help defend against complacency occurring at just the wrong time in our operations.

Instructor Bio

Benjamin Goodheart has been involved in the design of safety systems, particularly in aviation, for nearly 25 years. He enjoys working where complex systems and people interact and thrives in environments that require a balance of science and art. His work has been recognized by the National Academy of Sciences and cited in work by NASA and others. Benjamin writes and speaks worldwide on safety, resilience, and leadership in organizations where failure can carry an awfully high price. He holds a doctorate in aviation safety and a master’s degree in safety science, both from Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University.
