This course will familiarize attendees with the hazards of the wire and obstruction environment. Participants will learn how to avoid these hazards and become safety-minded crew members. They will also gain an understanding of the basic awareness utility crews must have to fly and work safely in the wire environment.

Learning Objectives: By the conclusion of the course, participants will have learned:

• How to focus on safety without becoming complacent while working in the wire-and-obstruction environment
• How to work as a team, with clear in-flight communications
• The dynamics of working in the wire-and-obstruction environment, including situational awareness, exposure and risks, visibility engineering, and the accident chain
• How and why wire- and obstruction-related helicopter accidents happen to experienced flight crews.

Instructor Bio

Robert A. Feerst, owner, CEO, and president of Utilities / Aviation Specialists, has been teaching “Flying in the Wire” courses worldwide for more than 30 years. He has served as a pilot and lineman and is currently a full-time corporate trainer, auditor, consultant, and accident investigator. He holds two bachelor’s degrees from Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University.
