This three-day course is designed to provide students with an understanding of the evaluation process and the skills necessary to complete an evaluation of a proposed or existing heliport. The instruction is offered by an FAA inspector experienced in heliport evaluations and includes both classroom lectures and hands-on, practical exercises. The course includes a detailed review of evaluation criteria, worksheets and administrative tools available to inspectors, preparation of the evaluation report, and hands-on instruction in the operation of the tools used in a typical evaluation. The course culminates in the evaluation of an existing, local heliport. Students are encouraged to bring their own personal equipment such as a GPS, range finder, and inclinometer.
