This course is designed for pilots with little to no longline experience who would like to learn more about the basics of longline and what it takes to gain employment in the external-load industry. Attendees will receive an introduction to longline equipment and the different sectors of the external-load industry, including general qualifications for each sector.

Learning Objectives: By the conclusion of the course, attendees will have learned:

  • Basic rigging procedures
  • Fundamentals of longlining
  • What employers look for when hiring a longline pilot.

Instructor Bio

Andre Hutchings is the director of operations and chief pilot for Volo Mission and command pilot and director of government-support operations for Columbia Helicopters. Andre has worked in the helicopter industry for more than 25 years in a variety of capacities, including firefighting, law enforcement, construction, logging, and oil-and-gas. He developed his passion for vertical reference and longlining while working for Columbia Helicopters (CHI), where he was pivotal in establishing CHI as one of the top private contractors in Afghanistan.
