This course covers night-vision goggles (NVG) safety in aviation operations. We’ll discuss basic operations, rules and regulations, and cockpit modifications and testing as well as the history of night vision and pilot and crew training. The course culminates with a review of accident case studies where we’ll dispel rumors and misreported findings about NVG in relation to the incidents.

Learning Objectives: By the conclusion of the course, participants will have learned:

  • The capabilities of NVG systems and how best to employ them to emphasize their capabilities.

Instructor Bio

Tony Tsantles served as a helicopter crew member, instructor, and Black Hawk instructor pilot before retiring from the US Army aviation community. He joined Aviation Specialties Unlimited in 2018 where he is now the chief flight Instructor for their 14 CFR Part 141 Rotorcraft courses and a 14 CFR Part 135 NVG check pilot in helicopters. Tony holds an airline transport pilot rotorcraft-helicopter rating, CFI/II, and private pilot rating in airplane, single-engine land.

John Roberts is senior air safety investigator at the US Department of Transportation’s Transportation Safety Institute.
