This course covers night-vision goggles (NVG) safety in aviation operations using accident case studies in which NVG are reported to have been on board the aircraft or in use at the time of the incident. The class covers basic operations, rules and regulations, cockpit modifications and testing, and the history of night vision while dispelling misleading findings in those accident case studies. Attendees will also discuss the effects spatial disorientation can have and what aviators can do to prepare for it.

Learning Objectives: By the conclusion of the course, attendees will have learned:

  • The capabilities of NVG and how to employ systems to leverage their capabilities
  • Rumors and misreported findings about NVG
  • A training solution for spatial disorientation issues in the aviation community.

Instructor Bio

Tony Tsantles is the FAA Part 135 director of operations at Aviation Specialties Unlimited. He is a retired US Army Black Hawk instructor pilot with over 23 years of experience in civil and military aviation. Tony teaches NVG initial, recurrent, and instructor courses to air ambulance operations, government agencies, and law enforcement. He is also a qualified NVG maintenance instructor.
