This session presents an opportunity to learn why the US Helicopter Safety Team (USHST) is passionate about increasing simulation to improve both aeronautical decision-making (ADM) and the culture of safety in our industry. We’ll explain the USHST approach to helicopter safety enhancements and examine the benefits of experience and learning from mistakes.

Instructor Bio

Nick Mayhew is industry co-chair of the USHST, which is part of the Vertical Aviation Safety Team (VAST). He manages international business development for CAE USA. A veteran of both Gulf wars, he served for 28 years in the Royal Navy, mainly as a Sea King antisubmarine and search-and-rescue instructor pilot. Nick has experience in the Bell 206 and Sikorsky S-300CBi, holding both EASA and FAA commercial and instructor rotorcraft qualifications. He is the 2017 recipient of HAI’s Salute to Excellence W.A. “Dub” Blessing Flight Instructor of the Year Award.
