The Difference between Settling with Power and Vortex Ring State

Rotor Safety Challenge (RSC)
Safety; Operations
Instructor: Karl Leinsing

There is great discussion about vortex ring state (VRS) and other recently popularized techniques, but what happened with settling with power? This session will discuss the differences and how to check if your helicopter has enough power to perform a maximum power vertical descent and ascent out of a tight landing zone. Safety checks that can be performed preflight and in the air will be discussed. Will the pilot feel any difference between VRS and settling with power? All these questions and more will be answered in this one-hour session.
