This course examines the role an organization’s leadership plays in the decision-making process for integrating unmanned aircraft systems (UAS) into operations. Topics include recognizing the value of UAS from a business perspective, applying UAS technology to enhance an organization’s capabilities, eliciting buy-in from employees, and creating a culture of acceptance.

Learning Objectives: By the conclusion of the course, participants will have learned:

  • How to recognize the value of UAS operations in a rotorcraft organization
  • Trends in and forecasts for the UAS sector and the sector’s impact on the rotorcraft industry
  • UAS applications and capabilities
  • Organizational culture and the integration of UAS operations

Instructor Bio

Scott Burgess is a full-time faculty member at Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University (ERAU) and special adviser, UAS, to HAI. Scott, who served 27 years in the military, earned a master’s degree in aeronautical science at ERAU and a PhD from Northcentral University. His more than 30 years in aviation include experience in both military and civil aviation organizations, and he is qualified on seven military and civilian helicopters. He has been employed at ERAU since 1999.
